Stefan Borst joins Weber Shandwick Brussels as Managing Director

Weber Shandwick today announced the appointment of Stefan Borst as Managing Director of its Brussels office. Borst will lead the agency’s EU public affairs and communications business, reporting to Hugh Taggart, CEO, Omnicom PR EMEA.

Borst brings more than twenty years’ experience in public affairs and strategic communications. He works with energy, industrial and technology clients, with expertise in policy change, executive positioning, digitalisation and trade, and has led public affairs, reputation management and pan-European campaigns for a diverse range of organisations.

Borst previously led Edelman’s business in Brussels and Belgium as CEO, before taking on the role of Head of the Energy & Industrials sector for EMEA. After Edelman, he focused on public affairs management consulting and staffing as partner and adviser to two specialist agencies.

Before Edelman, he was a Partner at a French firm specialising in online advocacy, and earlier founded and led a boutique consultancy in Berlin and Brussels, advising international corporations on European affairs, product defence cases and trade disputes. For more than a decade he represented the Board of Management of a global specialty chemicals company to the European institutions, worked within international trade bodies and advised C-suite clients on geopolitics. He began his career as a business journalist covering the “new economy”, later becoming EU correspondent for German news weekly FOCUS.

In his new role, Borst will focus on combining policy counsel, policy storytelling, executive positioning and earned media for clients navigating the new EU mandate.

Hugh Taggart, CEO, Omnicom PR EMEA said: “Brussels has never mattered more to our clients. Regulation on AI, competitiveness, energy and trade is reshaping entire sectors, and the organisations that succeed will be those that connect policy, reputation and earned influence. Stefan has done that from every side of the table – as a journalist, a founder, an in-house adviser and an agency leader. He is exactly the right person to lead our Brussels team into its next chapter.”

Stefan Borst said: “Weber Shandwick Brussels has a strong team, a long heritage in this city and the backing of a truly global network. I’m excited to build on that – bringing together sharp policy counsel, credible media engagement and smart use of data and AI so that our clients are not just heard in Brussels, but achieve impact.”
