Project: Finding the Light to Bloom

Finding the Light to Bloom

FESCA needed to raise awareness and empathy for those living with scleroderma. “Finding the Light to Bloom” used interpretive dance to highlight what is lost with a diagnosis – ease of movement – and what can be done to improve conditions for patients.

01The Context

Scleroderma is a rare disease, relatively unknown to GPs and policymakers, resulting in delayed diagnosis, misdiagnosis, and limited access to the right treatment. FESCA wanted to raise awareness and foster empathy for those living with the disease among the public and policymakers.

02The Move

Patients often describe their experience as ‘feeling like they have been turned to stone’, so we decided to highlight what is lost for those diagnosed with the disease – ease of movement – impacting mental health and social functioning.

03The Action

Finding the Light to Bloom focused on a 4-minute film featuring a contemporary solo-dance performance, depicting what life is like living with scleroderma. This was released on YouTube, hosted on FESCA’s website, shared on social and supported by infographics, a coffee table book, MEP soundbite videos and testimonials.

04The Impact

1M impressions, 374K video views and 164K social engagements. Visits to FESCA’s website increased by 450% in the three months following the campaign launch.
